Year of New Beer: Toasted Oak IPA, Innis & Gunn (Scotland)

Nose is very subdued, with only faint woody tones and hints of molasses. Unfortunately, things don't get a lot better on the tongue. The sweetness is much more like a lager than IPA. At this point, I'm not sure how they can even call this an IPA. I know the hops that are favored across the pond are for the most part somewhat bland and earthen when compared to their American counterparts, but these just have no punch at all. Mild oak notes and a buttery caramel round out a sticky sweet finish. Very average.
