Year of New Beer (Round 2): Space Ghost Imperial Stout, Central Waters Brewing (WI)

Rich cocoa powder, dark fruit, and light coffee bean on the nose, with very little hint of the ghost chili heat that lies in wait. On the tongue is a smooth, bitter chocolate with a touch of smoke that precedes the heat. The spice is remarkably well integrated, presenting as an earthy, charred layer that grabs hold deep in the throat, well beyond the swallow. Not intense at all, but building. One of the best pepper beers I've had.
