Year of New Beer (Round 1): Gustavia, Rooster Brew (Paris, KY)

Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good." With these words from Ralph Quillin still echoing in my mind, I try to wrap my head around what I drank tonight. Was it beer? Spiced cider? A rum concoction? The answer is yes. Very light on the nose, but flavors that more than make up for it. A hint of sour on the front end, followed by traces of cinnamon and mulling spices, finishing with a bit of rum that grows with warmth. This is how you do a seasonal beer. Give me unique, something I can't quite describe, something I can't put down. Well done. Lucky? I don't know, but I believe the funky beers starting to roll out of Rooster Brew are a sign that they have found their niche in the local beer scene.
