Year of New Beer: Omega Point, Olde Hickory Brewery (NC)

So I decided to kick off my 2 week vacation with a big beer. The problem with trying so many different beers is that you become jaded, and it's just more difficult to be impressed. No such problem tonight. The nose starts with chocolate covered fruit (think Brookside candies, Google them and find them). Add to that coffee, vanilla, and bourbon...and you have the makings of something special. The flavors do not disappoint, with the chocolate riding a wave of caramel and brown sugar, while raisins and figs linger in the background. Gentle traces of oak and bourbon are balanced perfectly against a finish that features a mild hop and cocoa powder bitterness. This beer was truly a treat.
