Year of New Beer: Big and Tall No. 3, English Barleywine in Charred Oak, Blue Pants Brewery (AL)

A nose of plums, red berries, and ribbons of caramel have me thinking I've opened a winner. Then I decide to taste it, and what I get is an unbalanced booze bomb. Very harsh oaked heat overtakes pretty much everything on the tongue with slightly tart elements of fruit. This beer was bottled nearly a year ago, so I'm surprised it's still this hot. But I'm not sure any more time will improve the outcome. Oh well, you win some, you waste $10 on some.
