Year of New Beer: Eleven/162, Christian Moerlein Brewing (Cincinnati)

I don't usually do back to back offerings from the same brewery, but this one was a good opportunity to try out the wax removal capabilities of my new Whale Slayer bottle opener. It works! On the nose, the brew offers up notes of dark fruits, light caramel and brown sugar, with some lesser elements of sweet dessert breads. On the tongue, the bourbon barrel aging becomes very evident with the first sip. Pretty hot with traces of oak, slightly sour fruit, and some earthy hop bitterness near the finish. Doesn't seem to have the depth and richness I like in a wee heavy. Probably would mellow with age.
