Year of New Beer: Snakes in a Barrel, West 6th Brewing (Lexington)

Yes, sometimes I'm a little slow in getting around to some of the awesome beer being brewed locally. I chalk that up to living a little farther away and being busy with family. But the wait is usually rewarded, and this case is no different. I've never soaked a fudge brownie in bourbon, but if I did, I imagine it would smell something like this. Rich and luscious with dark fruits atop charred oak and vanilla. Very good translation to the tongue as ripe berries wrapped in chocolate meet espresso-laden roasted malts. A sweet bourbon heat builds but stops short of dominating, adding layers of caramel and smoke to a complex but delicious flavor profile. Excellent.
