Year of New Beer: Molly's Lips Black Gose, Bhramari Brewhouse (Asheville)

The brine of a classic gose strikes the nose, with an underlying char of bread crust and roasted malts. The eyes may be fooled, but the tongue is not as the traditional gose punch jumps the taste buds immediately, bringing layers of salt and sour. With warmth, the "black" kicks in as a deeper char and even hints of smoke do battle with the salinity. This is an interesting and enjoyable brew that pushes the boundaries of the style for sure, and it proved to be a nice counterpart to a roasted chicken and vegetables dish.
