Year of New Beer: Pineapple Jungle Boogie, Marz Community Brewing (Chicago)

Recently, I stumbled across the regular Jungle Boogie somewhat by accident. Turns out it is one of my favorite beers of the year so far. I didn't really think it could be improved. Turns out that is just another thing I was wrong about. The nose opens with an immediate punch of juicy pineapple, almost candied in its sweetness. Lesser notes of orange peel and dried apricots complement the earthy tea that develops with warmth. Light citrus pith bitterness greets the tongue but is fleeting as the fruit sugars begin to steal the show. Pineapple is obvious, but traces of apricot, peach, and even a little orange marmalade sneak in. The tea presence incorporates nicely, preventing the sweetness from overpowering the brew. This is outstanding.
