Year of New Beer: Funk Land Country Shuffle, Upland Brewing/Country Boy Brewing (IN/KY)

Whereas strawberry was the star of the Country Boy show, Upland takes their side of the collaboration and focuses on cherries. The nose is tart with the fruit, as hints of cocoa and traces of mint leaves begin to creep in with warmth. On the tongue, the cherries are moderately sour with a crisp effervescence that makes the beer feel almost alive. The acidic bite is tempered only slightly by a bit of cocoa, then somewhat overwhelmed as the herbal mint quality comes forward. This is good, but needs to be shared, as a full bottle is just too much. I would have preferred a bit more chocolate and a less heavy hand with the mint.
