Year of New Beer: Sauc Monkey, Monnik Beer Co/Companyia Cervesera del Montseny (Louisville/Spain)

Sometimes, luck is on your side, and you wander into a brewery only to find the potent potable mastermind of said establishment sitting at the bar. Brewers are, by nature, their own worst critics. So when the head brewer says he really likes a beer, it's a no-brainer decision. This Belgian pale ale features the addition of elderflower and presents with a delicate nose of yeast, floral hops, and a very light spice. Warmth brings hints of baked bread and dusty field grasses. On the tongue, a mild hop bitterness combines with a faint white grape and spice note, as a slightly sweet floral aspect lingers in the background. Wonderfully balanced and easy drinking.  Scott Hand is a talented brewer who takes great care to put only the best possible product in your glass. If you find yourself in Louisville, visit their taproom for not only delicious beer, but also an incredible menu from an awesome kitchen. If you would just like to talk beer, then visit Bluegrass Liquor Box Canewood on February 22nd, when Scott is in the house for their Meet the Brewer Series. It's sure to be a fun and informative evening.
