Year of New Beer (Rnd 2): Guava Ghost, Country Boy Brewing (Lexington)

Since I sampled this a few days ago, it isn't technically a new beer. Getting another go at it today, I felt like it deserved a mention. Taking their classic Gose base, the boys give it a twist by adding guava to the mix. The nose still exhibits the tart wheat and light salt aspect of the original, but allows a hint of sweetness to come through, presenting a bit like pear. Very similar on the tongue as the beer remains sour, but not overly so, with juicy fruit really starting to shine as the glass warms. The sweetness counters the low-level brininess of the base beer to near perfection. This is an ideal addition to the Ghost Gose, and we can only hope it gets brewed on the regular
