Year of New Beer: Little Black Train and Living Proof Wild Cider, Country Boy Brewing (Lexington)

I've never tried to hide the fact that I support the local breweries. I'm a homer, and I will not apologize for that. I want to see them all do well. Granted, I have a soft spot for these guys. From the day that a baby-faced DH excitedly told me about the brewery that he and his friends were going to open in Lexington until tonight, I have cheered their successes, and I have ached to my core listening to (some deserved) criticism of a few of their beers. But tonight I cheered. In my hometown, they have realized the American dream. Say what you will, but the vast majority of us wake up every morning and go to work for someone else. These guys? They dreamed, and they built it. Tonight, the beers are inconsequential, but no less delicious. Little Black Train is an espresso stout that emits the most delicious, fresh-brewed coffee aroma. On the tongue, the coffee bean stands strong, building towards bitter, but reigned in by a smooth chocolate that makes this incredibly drinkable. The Wild Cider is yet another masterfu Daniel Sinkhorn creation that straddles a sweet/sour line beautifully as apple, cherry, and lemon all seem to hit the taste buds in succession. Sweet, tart, dry...Very nice. I don't drink many ciders, but this one hits right in my wheelhouse. Do yourself a favor and make the drive to Georgetown to see this place. There's nothing else like it in the state. And the state of Kentucky beer is good!
