Year of New Beer: Imperial Mexican Biscotti Cake Break, Evil Twin/Westbrook (NY/SC)

Two awesome beers are combined in one, and the result is stellar. Dark chocolate, mild coffee, and lightly charred malts form the base of the nose. With warmth, sweet vanilla and almond join an obvious pepper note to add complexity. On the tongue is again the charred malt aspect, slightly smoky and a touch bitter. A strong chocolate undertone carries the auxiliary notes of cinnamon and habañero, each building in intensity before softening under the light vanilla. I can't say for sure that it's better than either beer individually, but it is certainly very, very good.
