Year of New Beer: Subluminal Imperial Stout, Buxton Brewery/Stillwater Artisanal Ales (England/MD)

Dark toast, cocoa powder, coffee, and a hint of licorice are just a few of the plethora of aromas found in the glass. On the tongue, the malts are charred, providing an earthy, woody bitterness. Traces of soy and dark fruit combine with chocolate, coffee, and smoke to add layers to the flavor. Drinks incredibly easy for 10%. Finishes maybe a touch astringent, but not enough to detract.
