Year of New Beer: Dark Hearted Tart, Rock House Brewing (Lexington)

A bit of a surprise tapping today, one week ahead of their Be(er) Mine Brunch, and I'm glad I found myself in the neighborhood. Tart cherry is evident immediately on the nose, with underlying layers of roasted malt and chocolate. On the tongue, the fruit is sour, but not overly so, allowing the roasty aspect of the stout to shine. A nice cocoa powder bitterness balances the cherries very well. This is one of the better sour stouts I can remember having. Well done!
