Year of New Beer: Uncle Jacob's Stout, Avery Brewing (CO)

The nose is rich with bitter cocoa, coffee, bourbon, and charred wood. On the tongue, dark fruits provide a syrupy sweetness, while the bourbon begins to add some heat. As it warms, quite a bit of soy comes out, which sort of throws off the balance for me. At 14.8% abv, this is a beast of a beer, but, in my opinion, it needs a little refinement to put it in the same stratosphere as Bourbon County Stout.
